artist statement
My work is a retelling of my lived experiences. In my ongoing efforts to develop my artistic voice, I utilize imagery from my childhood and the world around me as my subjects. Family photo albums and pictures taken with my friends are something I hold dearly; my work strives to immortalize those sweet nostalgic memories.
I use soft, light colors and gradients to emit welcoming feelings of levity, joy, and serenity. My sculptures capture the dichotomy of soft and delicate, contrasting with dense, solid material. Fabric alone creates such beautiful visual interest in the way it chooses to drape, ripple, and shift in color depending on the light. When a sheer material is paired with such a complex form like the human body, the relationship expressed through what ends up shown or omitted is something I find really special.
